Documented steps

  1. POST /api/0/organizations/{organization_id_or_slug}/releases/ with JSON {"version":"1.0.0","projects":["project-slug"]} — docs: https://docs.sentry.io/api/releases/create-a-new-release-for-an-organization/
  2. Associate commits at creation with a commits array ({id, repository, message}) or refs array ({repository, commit, previousCommit}).
  3. Example: curl -X POST -H 'Authorization: Bearer $TOKEN' -H 'Content-Type: application/json' -d '{"version":"1.0.0","projects":["web"],"refs":[{"repository":"org/repo","commit":"abc123"}]}' https://sentry.io/api/0/organizations/my-org/releases/
  4. 201 returns the release object. version must be unique within the org; it can be a semver string or a commit SHA.
  5. Finalize/update: PUT /api/0/organizations/{org}/releases/{version}/ (e.g. set dateReleased) — docs: https://docs.sentry.io/api/releases/update-an-organizations-release/
  6. Accepted token scopes include org:ci, project:releases, project:write, project:admin.
