Confirm the building is inside the Central Business District (bounded by Roosevelt Rd south, Halsted St west, Lake Michigan east, and Chicago Ave/Division St north) — as of this session the AIC program is restricted to that area, not citywide.
Hire an Illinois-licensed elevator inspection company; the individual performing the inspection must be a Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) holding an active Illinois state elevator inspector license and be employed by (or sole proprietor of) that licensed company.
Schedule the annual inspection under Chicago Municipal Code Chapter 18-30 for elevators, escalators, and other regulated conveyances.
Submit inspection results through the City's online AIC portal.
For buildings outside the CBD, verify the applicable Chicago DOB inspection process separately rather than assuming AIC applies.
