Steps
Confirm the Housecall Pro account is on the MAX plan, since the Public API is only available to MAX-plan Pros.
As an Admin user, open the App Store, find the API app card, and click 'Generate API Key.'
Name the key and share it only with a trusted developer, since it grants access to all data in the account.
Give the developer the open API documentation at docs.housecallpro.com so they can find job, attachment, and job-inbox endpoints for syncing before/after photos.
Test read/write calls against a job record using the generated key before rolling the integration out company-wide.
Known gotchas
Housecall Pro does not build or support custom integrations itself; there is no vendor support for API-key-based integration bugs.
Deleting the API key immediately breaks any integration using it, so rotate carefully.
OAuth 2.0 is reserved for official integration partners; independent developers must use the API-key method instead.
