Steps
In ONYX ProductionHouse/Thrive, create a Quick Set with the desired print/cut settings, then designate a Hot Folder tied to that Quick Set
Drop incoming files (or JDF tickets) into the Hot Folder; ONYX auto-imports and queues the job using the Quick Set's parameters
For Caldera RIP, create/mount a HotFolder tab and, if bilateral status updates are needed, enable Nexio for JDF/JMF communication with an external MIS/ERP
Configure JDF ticket fields (quantities, media, finishing) at the MIS/webshop end so imported jobs reduce manual re-entry
Monitor the RIP's job queue/Images bar for exceptions, since hot folders do not natively expose job status via a public API
Known gotchas
Neither vendor publishes a general third-party REST API for hot folders — automation is JDF/JMF-ticket and filesystem-based, not API-based
JDF ticket fields must match the RIP's expected schema (Caldera Nexio, ONYX JDF import) or jobs silently ignore ticket data
Hot folder automation assumes correctly pre-flighted, print-ready files; it does not perform preflight itself
