Documented steps Run mc version enable ALIAS/BUCKET to turn on versioning for that bucket. To exclude certain objects from versioning, pass --excluded-prefixes with a comma-separated list (up to 10 prefixes). Pass --exclude-folders to disable versioning on all folder objects (names ending in a slash). For Spark/Hadoop-style buckets, pass --purge-on-delete on to delete current and all non-current versions when the current one is removed. Verify with mc version info ALIAS/BUCKET or mc ls --versions ALIAS/BUCKET.
Known gotchas Enabling versioning on a bucket with existing data immediately creates a NULL version ID for every unversioned object. --purge-on-delete defaults to off; when on, deleting the current version also purges all older versions. Object versioning cannot be turned off after being enabled (only suspended), so plan before enabling on production buckets.
