  1. Check 40 CFR 258.28 (Liquids restrictions) - bulk/noncontainerized liquid waste is generally prohibited in MSW landfills
  2. Note that the household-waste exception under 258.28 explicitly excludes septic waste ("household waste other than septic waste")
  3. Recognize that leachate/gas-condensate recirculation is a separate exception requiring a composite liner and leachate collection system, and it does not cover incoming septage
  4. If a facility does accept septage, look for it operating under a specific state variance, pretreatment/solidification process, or a documented demonstration project rather than routine acceptance
  5. For routine disposal, direct septage to a permitted septage treatment facility, land application site, or wastewater treatment plant instead
