Register on the Fortellis developer network (fortellis.io), which is the platform through which CDK Global async and synchronous DMS APIs are accessed and monetized
Browse the Fortellis API directory to locate the CDK Repair Order API bundle and subscribe your application to gain access credentials
Obtain dealer authorization by having the dealership install your application from the Fortellis marketplace, which grants your app access to their CDK DMS data
For async (event-driven) repair order updates, subscribe to the CDK Repair Order Async API topic to receive repair order lifecycle events as they occur in the DMS
For synchronous reads, call the repair order GET endpoint with the dealer token and repair order identifier to retrieve current status, technician assignments, parts, and labor line details
Write integration status or enrichment data back to the DMS using the appropriate write endpoints (such as completing a vehicle health-check outcome) following the CDK DMS field schema
Known gotchas
CDK DMS access is dealer-gated: your application must be listed and approved in the Fortellis marketplace and each dealership must individually install and authorize your app before you can read their data
Async API events follow an event-driven schema; the Repair Order V2 bundle has a different schema from V1 — review the migration guide in the Fortellis community if you are upgrading an existing integration
CDK underwent a significant cybersecurity incident affecting its infrastructure in 2024; verify current API availability, connectivity requirements, and any updated security guidance with CDK before going live
