Register as a developer on walmart.io and create an application to obtain your API key for the Affiliate API
Review the Affiliate API documentation on walmart.io to understand available endpoints for product search, product lookup by item ID, and category browsing
Implement a product search call using a keyword or UPC relevant to your content (e.g., a recipe ingredient); parse the response to extract item name, price, thumbnail image, and the affiliate product URL
Construct shoppable links using the affiliate URL format from the API response, appending your publisher tracking parameters as required by the Affiliate program terms
Cache product data with an appropriate TTL (respecting any terms-of-service constraints on data freshness) to reduce API call volume; refresh for price and availability changes
Disclose affiliate relationships to end users in compliance with FTC guidelines and Walmart's affiliate program terms
Known gotchas
The legacy Walmart Open API (developer.walmartlabs.com) has been retired; all affiliate API integrations must use the walmart.io platform — do not build against the old endpoints
Affiliate API access is subject to Walmart's publisher approval process; you must apply and be accepted into the affiliate program before receiving production API credentials
Product availability and pricing from the Affiliate API reflect walmart.com catalog data and may not perfectly match in-store grocery availability or local pricing; surface this caveat to users in markets where in-store pricing differs
