For Texas: use the State Fire Marshal's Office public license search at appscenter.tdi.texas.gov/reports/p/sfmo to look up companies and individuals licensed for fire sprinkler, fire alarm, or extinguisher work
Note Texas fire sprinkler/alarm licensing is a Texas Department of Insurance SFMO function, separate from any local building-department contractor license
For California: verify the general contractor's C-16 (Fire Protection Contractor) classification via CSLB's 'Check a License' tool at cslb.ca.gov
Also check CAL FIRE's Office of the State Fire Marshal licensing/permit lookup (calfire.govmotus.org/PublicTools, part of the GOVmotus Fire system) for any additional state-level fire-specific licensure beyond the CSLB C-16 classification
