Steps

  1. Document at least 1 year of verifiable irrigation-related work experience before applying.
  2. Agree to the Irrigation Association's Select Certified Code of Ethics as part of candidacy.
  3. Study audit procedures, soil-plant relationships, irrigation scheduling, and audit equipment/technology.
  4. Pass the 3-hour, 125-question multiple-choice exam at 70%+ (fees: $250 member / $495 nonmember).
  5. Complete and submit proof of an independent irrigation audit if you want the credential to carry WaterSense recognition.
  6. Submit 20 continuing education units per renewal cycle and pay the annual renewal fee ($75 member / $125 nonmember, plus $25 per additional IA certification).
