Use ASTM E779, Standard Test Method for Determining Air Leakage Rate by Fan Pressurization, for single-zone buildings or buildings that can be treated as single-zone by opening interior doors or equalizing adjacent-zone pressures
Confirm test conditions require small temperature differentials and low wind — avoid testing during strong winds or large indoor/outdoor temperature swings
Note the method characterizes airtightness under fan-induced pressurization/depressurization but does not measure air change rate under normal weather/operating conditions
For buildings too large or too zoned for E779's single-zone assumption, route to ASTM E3158 instead
Verify current edition (E779-19 as of 2026, with a revision work item in progress) on the ASTM standard page before citing in specifications
