Navigate to directory.sima.org (SIMA's public Snow Directory, searchable by anyone without login) and search for the subcontractor's company name or the individual's name
Note whether the listing indicates SIMA membership only, versus an explicit CSP or ASM credential holder
Cross-reference the listing against documentation the subcontractor provides directly (certificate, renewal receipt)
Flag any mismatch between what the subcontractor claims and what the directory shows for follow-up before finalizing the vendor list
Re-check the directory close to the contract start date rather than relying on a check performed months earlier, since credentials can lapse
Known gotchas
Directory presence signals organizational membership, not necessarily a current, unlapsed individual certification — CSP/ASM status for a specific person still needs separate confirmation
Directory data is largely self-reported by member companies and may not be actively audited by SIMA for accuracy
A subcontractor absent from the directory isn't necessarily uncertified — smaller shops or recent certificate-holders may not yet be listed; treat directory search as one data point, not the sole determinant
