Steps
Set a one-time power event with `sudo pmset schedule <sleep|wake|poweron|shutdown|wakeorpoweron> "MM/dd/yy HH:mm:ss"` (quoted, 24-hour time).
Set recurring events with `sudo pmset repeat <type> <weekday-letters> HH:mm:ss`, where weekdays are letters M T W R F S U (R = Thursday).
Combine a wake and a sleep repeat event in one command string, e.g. `sudo pmset repeat wakeorpoweron T 12:00:00 sleep MTWRFSU 20:00:00`.
List currently configured schedule/repeat events with `pmset -g sched` to confirm what was actually registered.
Cancel all scheduled repeat events with `sudo pmset repeat cancel` before re-applying a new schedule from a script, to avoid stacking conflicting rules.
Known gotchas
Only one repeating power-on event and one repeating power-off event can be active at a time; a second `pmset repeat` call replaces the existing schedule rather than adding to it, so all events must be specified together.
pmset requires root for schedule/repeat writes, so unattended scripts need passwordless sudo or a signed launchd daemon rather than interactive pmset calls.
Scheduled wake/poweron events can be silently overridden by power conditions (low battery, clamshell mode) with no error surfaced by pmset itself.
