Steps

  1. Check homeenergysaver.lbl.gov / hespro.lbl.gov directly — as of this writing they return "site undergoing maintenance," reflecting that public funding for Home Energy Saver was sunset in 2023 and the consumer tool is no longer operating.
  2. Do not integrate against the historical Home Energy Saver API (documented at developers.buildingsapi.lbl.gov) for new production work; it dates to LBNL's older HES engine and is not an actively supported service.
  3. Redirect any consumer-facing "estimate my home's energy use" need to DOE's currently maintained Home Energy Score program (hescore.labworks.org / hes-documentation.labworks.org) instead, the actively supported program sharing LBNL/DOE engineering lineage.
  4. If historical HES engineering methodology documentation is needed for reference, LBNL's hes-documentation.lbl.gov engineering-documentation site remains available even though the consumer-facing tool is down.
