Steps
Before binding coverage, confirm explicitly with the broker or carrier whether the general liability policy covers snow and ice removal operations at all, since many standard GL forms exclude or limit this class of work by default.
Check the declarations page and endorsements for language that adds back or removes snow/ice coverage, and confirm whether any exclusion applies to commercial work only, residential only, or all snow-related operations.
Ask specifically whether the auto exclusion for vehicles used in plowing has been addressed by endorsement, since a standard CGL auto exclusion can otherwise leave plow-related bodily injury or property damage claims uncovered.
Confirm the policy includes completed-operations coverage, since snow and ice liability claims often arise after a service visit has finished, not during it.
Ask about pollution-exclusion interactions if de-icing chemical runoff near wetlands or waterways is a possibility for any serviced properties.
Known gotchas
Holding 'general liability insurance' is not the same as having snow-removal-specific coverage — get written confirmation of snow/ice coverage rather than relying on a generic GL certificate.
Some policies restrict coverage for municipal or government contracts, or exclude certain hours of operation — read exclusions line by line, not just the coverage grant.
