Documented steps
Run `mc admin decommission status ALIAS` without a TARGET to get a summary table of all pools with ID, endpoint, usage percentage, status, and objects moved.
To inspect a single pool, append the TARGET: `mc admin decommission status ALIAS TARGET` (full pool description like `https://minio-{01...04}.example.net:9000/mnt/disk{1...4}` or `hash:<hex>` for config.yaml deployments).
Interpret status values: Active (not scheduled), Draining (currently decommissioning), Complete (finished successfully), Failed (failed, requires manual restart), Canceled (manually cancelled).
Detailed per-pool status shows pool info (endpoint, pool ID, usage, start time, duration), migration progress (objects moved, data moved, remaining data, transfer speed, ETA), and actionable next steps.
Use the alias of the MinIO deployment; TARGET comes from the pool list shown when you run status without a TARGET.
Known gotchas
Failed status requires manual restart of the decommission - it does not retry automatically.
Canceled means a prior `mc admin decommission cancel` was run; the pool is not active and still needs to be drained and removed.
The command returns a summary table when TARGET is omitted and detailed info when TARGET is supplied - pick whichever you need.
