Steps

  1. Structure the message into Sequence A (General Information, single occurrence) carrying Field 20 (Sender's Reference), Field 30 (requested execution date), and Field 50a (the account owner whose account is to be debited).
  2. Include Field 52a to identify the account-servicing institution whenever it differs from the message receiver, which is typical for a drawdown/concentration request.
  3. Populate Sequence B (Transaction Details, repeated once per underlying transfer) with Field 32B (currency and amount), Field 59a (beneficiary), and Field 71A (charges bearer: BEN/OUR/SHA) for each transaction.
  4. Confirm the account owner has a signed multi-banking/cash-management authorization on file with the executing bank before sending live MT101s — the requesting party is not automatically entitled to debit the named account.
  5. Validate the constructed message against your target bank's own MT101 implementation guide, since optional fields and authorized-party requirements vary by institution.
