Steps
Submit an Officer object with the business application containing an individual whose title matches Unit's accepted set (e.g. CEO, COO, CFO, President, Treasurer, Secretary, Controller, Manager, Partner, Member, among others)
Submit a beneficialOwners array containing every individual who owns 25% or more of the business, each with a percentage between 25 and 100
Submit an empty beneficialOwners array only when the business genuinely has no individual owning 25% or more, rather than omitting the field
Collect and attach identity documents for the officer and each beneficial owner before the application can move out of a pending or manual-review state
Poll or listen for application status changes and route any manual-review outcome to a human compliance workflow rather than treating it as a terminal failure
Known gotchas
The 25% threshold is a floor, not the full CDD picture: an individual who controls the business without meeting the ownership percentage (the "control prong") may still need to be captured as an officer even though they wouldn't appear in beneficialOwners
Submitting an incomplete or empty beneficialOwners array on a business that does have 25%+ owners will typically stall or fail the application rather than silently succeeding
Officer title strings must match Unit's accepted enum values exactly; free-text titles that don't map to the accepted set will be rejected
