Steps

  1. Call the impact-at-a-point-in-time method for a given balancing authority/region and timezone-aware timestamp to get the marginal emissions rate (lb/MWh) attributable to electricity use at that moment
  2. Call the impact-between method with a start time, end time, balancing authority, and interval length to get a time series of impact values across a window
  3. Use forecast data, which extends at least 24 hours ahead at five-minute granularity, to identify lower-emissions windows for shiftable loads
  4. Combine impact-at/impact-between results with a device's expected run duration to estimate total avoided emissions from shifting its schedule
  5. Confirm the balancing authority/region code and market are correct for the site's actual grid location before calling
