Steps
Register an organization and application in the Applied Dev Center to obtain sandbox credentials
Review the API catalog for available RESTful APIs (e.g., Attachments API, Contacts API) and their required scopes
Build and test the integration against the sandbox environment before requesting production access
Submit a production application request with organization name, email, enterprise ID, and Epic database name
Use the Attachments API to retrieve or upload documents tied to a client account, and the Contacts API to list/filter contacts by client
Wait for the approval email notification before switching from sandbox credentials to production credentials
Known gotchas
Legacy integrations built on the older Applied Epic SDK (COM-based) must be rewritten against the newer RESTful API model -- there is no drop-in compatibility shim
Production access requires an approval step tied to specific enterprise ID/Epic database identifiers, not just a self-serve API key
Capabilities are split across discrete purpose-built endpoints (attachments, contacts, etc.) rather than one general-purpose data API, so an integration may need multiple SDK-API licenses enabled
