Steps

  1. Register at account.uspto.gov and generate a TSDR API key, which is separate from any credentials used for other USPTO Open Data Portal APIs
  2. Send requests to the dedicated TSDR API host rather than the general USPTO developer/Open Data Portal domain
  3. Query case status by serial number, registration number, or international registration number to retrieve the current prosecution status
  4. Retrieve the document list for the case to see all filed documents along with their document codes and filing dates
  5. Download individual documents as PDF, or the full case file as a ZIP, using the corresponding endpoint and your API key
  6. Monitor rate-limit response headers and pace bulk requests accordingly, especially for document downloads
