Identify the LEED O+M green-cleaning credit relevant to a building-service contractor

Steps

1. Confirm on usgbc.org which LEED rating system version the client's project is certifying under, since LEED v5 was ratified by USGBC members on March 28, 2025, launched April 28, 2025, and a LEED v5 Reference Guide (Building Design and Construction, February 2026 edition) has since been published — do not assume the project is still using a legacy LEED-EB green-cleaning credit structure without checking.
2. For projects still certifying under an earlier LEED O+M version, review that version's green-cleaning-related credit language (historically covering cleaning products/materials, equipment, and policy) directly on usgbc.org rather than from memory.
3. For projects moving to LEED v5, review the current v5 credit library and reference guide on usgbc.org for the operations-phase requirements that replace or update the legacy green-cleaning credit.
4. Supply the client's LEED consultant with the BSC's supporting documentation (e.g., Green Seal GS-42 certification, CIMS-GB certification, EPA-registered/green-certified product lists, IAQ practices) mapped to whichever specific credit language currently applies.
5. Re-confirm credit numbering/requirements each time a new project starts, since USGBC continues to publish updated reference guide editions post-launch.
