Use ASTM C1060, Standard Practice for Thermographic Inspection of Insulation Installations in Envelope Cavities of Frame Buildings, for qualitative thermal inspection of wood- or metal-framed walls, ceilings, roofs, and floors with cavity insulation
Confirm the practice's scope is limited to frame construction with insulation between framing members — it detects missing, partial-thickness, misaligned, or damaged insulation, and confirms apparently adequate coverage
Note the practice explicitly excludes validation techniques (e.g., visual inspection or in-situ R-value measurement) from its scope — thermography flags anomalies but does not itself confirm R-value
Schedule the inspection under conditions that produce sufficient temperature differential across the assembly for thermal contrast to be visible
