Check the official OpenAI deprecations page (developers.openai.com/api/docs/deprecations) for model sunset dates before relying on any realtime/audio model ID.
Realtime voice agents: gpt-realtime, gpt-4o-realtime, gpt-realtime-mini, and gpt-4o-mini-realtime are deprecated with shutdown Jan 20, 2027. Migrate to gpt-realtime-2.1 (or gpt-realtime-2.1-mini for small models).
Audio: gpt-audio, gpt-4o-audio, gpt-audio-mini, and gpt-4o-mini-audio map to gpt-audio-1.5.
Transcription: gpt-4o-mini-transcribe-2025-03-20 is replaced by gpt-4o-mini-transcribe-2025-12-15.
Update every pinned model ID in agent configs, then re-test realtime session setup and output schemas, since the 2.1/1.5 replacements can differ from the deprecated snapshots.
Known gotchas
Sunset is Jan 20, 2027: after that date deprecated IDs return an error (404) immediately - no gradual degradation, so migrate before the cutoff.
Replacements are not drop-in identical: gpt-realtime-2.1 and gpt-audio-1.5 may change session params or event structures, so verify your realtime/audio client code.
OpenAI gives preview models as little as 2 weeks notice; pin long-lived snapshots for production.
