Register and complete habilitación (enablement) testing to become an electronic invoicer under Colombia's DIAN system

Steps

1. Enter the DIAN 'Habilitación' portal and generate an access token, then formalize registration by selecting 'Registrar' inside the portal per DIAN's published registration infographic.
2. Re-enter the Habilitación portal, generate a new access token, and select the operation mode 'Software de Factura Electrónica'; DIAN states the system then generates test numbering ranges automatically ('el sistema genera los rangos de prueba automáticamente').
3. Successfully complete DIAN's required test SET for electronic invoices ('Realiza exitosamente el SET de pruebas de las facturas electrónicas') to move from Registro to Habilitación status — DIAN's own infographic lists differing document quantities depending on operation mode (e.g., Proveedor Tecnológico vs. Software propio vs. Facturación Gratuita DIAN).
4. After enablement, enter the 'Facturando Electrónicamente' portal, generate an access token, and select the date on which electronic invoicing will begin, which DIAN uses to update the taxpayer's RUT (tax registry) status.
5. Request electronic-invoice numbering ranges through DIAN's MUISCA system, then associate those ranges to your software via the 'Facturando Electrónicamente' portal before issuing production invoices; DIAN notes that contingency 'talonario' ranges for technology failures must instead be associated directly inside the invoicing software.
