Steps
Register for an AM Best account and API access at web.ambest.com/developers, since the developer portal and API documentation sit behind an authenticated login.
Obtain OAuth 2.0 client credentials and request an access token per AM Best's standard OAuth 2.0 flow.
Call the Entities and Ratings API with an AMB# or company name to retrieve the current Best's Credit Rating or Performance Assessment plus identifying data (FEIN/AIIN/LEI, AMB Name/Number, address).
For compliance/licensing workflows, separately call the Best's Licensing Status API to retrieve state-by-state insurance entity licensing information.
Cache results locally and refresh on a schedule rather than calling per-transaction, since ratings and licensing data update periodically rather than continuously.
