Documented steps Configure an alias for the deployment: mc alias set ALIAS https://endpoint:9000 ACCESSKEY SECRETKEY Confirm the user has the admin:Rebalance policy action for the deployment (required permission) Start the operation: mc admin rebalance start ALIAS (e.g. mc admin rebalance start myaistor) Rebalancing redistributes objects across all pools to equalize free space; without it, new objects are written to the pool with the most free space
Known gotchas Requires the admin:Rebalance policy action; a non-admin user is denied Rebalancing is expensive and time-consuming - run only during light or no usage of the deployment If writes occur during a rebalance they process in parallel and write to a pool not actively rebalancing Adding a new pool does NOT auto-rebalance; you must trigger a manual rebalance You can stop a rebalance and start it again later as needed
