Steps
Push a new prompt version from code or the Playground, which creates a commit with a hash in the prompt's version history
Create a commit tag on a specific commit from the prompt detail page's left pane
Promote a chosen commit to the Staging or Production environment via the Promote action (environments are backed by reserved `staging`/`production` commit tags)
Reference the environment tag in code, e.g. `client.pull_prompt("joke-generator:production")`
Roll back an environment to a prior commit using each environment's rollback history if needed
Known gotchas
The `staging` and `production` tags are reserved and only settable through the promotion flow, not the freeform tag picker
Promoting a commit to Production does not remove it from Staging — a commit can be assigned to both simultaneously
