Identify dataset 43nn-pn8j, 'DOHMH New York City Restaurant Inspection Results', on the NYC Open Data Socrata portal
Query https://data.cityofnewyork.us/resource/43nn-pn8j.json with $where filters on boro, cuisine_description, grade, or inspection_date, or narrow to one place with camis
Use SoQL floating_timestamp literals, e.g. $where=inspection_date > '2026-01-01T00:00:00', to bound results by date
Register a free NYC Open Data account and application token, then send it via the X-App-Token header to raise the throttling ceiling
Page through results with $limit and $offset since one restaurant can have many violation rows across repeated inspections
Known gotchas
Each row is one violation citation, not one inspection visit - an inspection with 3 violations produces 3 rows sharing the same camis and inspection_date, so counting rows overcounts inspections
grade is frequently null for ungraded cycle types or not-yet-adjudicated inspections; don't assume every row carries A/B/C
The dataset only retains violations from up to 3 years before each CAMIS's most recent inspection, so it is not a full historical archive
