Confirm PAREA's current scope — as of this writing it is approved as an experience-hour alternative for the Licensed Residential and Certified Residential credential levels; verify whether Certified General coverage has since been added.
Note that PAREA programs are developed and delivered by independent AQB-approved providers, not by the Appraisal Foundation itself.
Check the Foundation's PAREA page for the current list of AQB-approved providers before recommending one.
Confirm with the candidate's specific state board that it recognizes PAREA completion toward licensing experience requirements, since state adoption can lag AQB approval.
Known gotchas
The Appraisal Foundation does not run or sell PAREA programs — enrollment happens through an approved third-party provider, not the Foundation.
State-level recognition of PAREA is not automatic or universal — always confirm with the specific state board before assuming it counts.
