Confirm R-Mark is voluntary and, per the 2023 program update, applies separately to manufacturers, specific systems, and on-site installations
Confirm eligibility: only companies that design AND manufacture primary structural rack/decking components qualify; distributors, resellers, and repair-only companies are excluded
Confirm the verification process: a licensed PE with rack-system expertise reviews the applicant's calculations and test data before RMI issues a certification number
Confirm ongoing requirements: annual attestation of no significant product/design changes, plus re-certification when the referenced ANSI standard is revised
Do not claim a public searchable database of R-Mark certified companies exists unless one is found live on mhi.org or rmiracksafety.org during the session — treat this as unconfirmed and direct the user to contact RMI/MHI directly if no database is located
Known gotchas
R-Mark is a voluntary manufacturer-level certification, not a legal requirement — absence of R-Mark does not itself mean a rack is non-compliant
Do not assert a specific public lookup tool/URL for checking certification status unless it was actually found on mhi.org this session; if unfound, say so rather than inventing one
R-Mark certifies the manufacturer's design/testing process, not the condition of an installed, in-service rack — it is not a substitute for periodic inspection
