Confirm there is no public developer API before designing an integration; SmartCraft is a proprietary CAN-bus protocol distinct from open NMEA 2000
To bridge any SmartCraft data to third-party displays, use a Mercury-sold gateway such as SmartCraft Connect (streams to the Mercury Marine phone app and compatible MFDs) or VesselView Link (SmartCraft-to-NMEA-2000 gateway for Navico-group MFDs)
Expect only a subset of data to cross the gateway as standard NMEA 2000 PGNs; deeper fault/diagnostic detail rides on Mercury's own proprietary PGNs readable only by Mercury-aware displays
Do not wire SmartCraft Connect and VesselView Link to the same network simultaneously, since Mercury documents that they may conflict and are not intended to operate together
