Steps
Go to the Bulk Data Download (CSV) page at ncei.noaa.gov/stormevents/ftp.jsp.
Select the relevant year(s) and download the corresponding CSV files covering the full Storm Events Database (January 1950 to present, subject to the reporting lag noted above).
Import the CSVs into your analysis tool and filter to relevant event types (e.g., Hail, Thunderstorm Wind, Tornado, Flood) and states for your service area.
Use the Database Details and Version History pages to understand which fields and event-type definitions changed over the period you're analyzing, since data collection procedures have changed over time.
Combine event dates/locations with your CRM's historical job data to build a demand-forecasting model for surge staffing ahead of seasonal severe weather.
Known gotchas
Because data collection methodology changed multiple times since 1950, comparing raw event counts across very different eras without accounting for reporting-practice changes will overstate or understate real trend changes.
The bulk CSVs are not updated in real time — the same 75–90 day lag applies as with the search interface, so bulk downloads are for historical trend analysis, not live CAT dispatch.
