Steps

  1. Go to the Bulk Data Download (CSV) page at ncei.noaa.gov/stormevents/ftp.jsp.
  2. Select the relevant year(s) and download the corresponding CSV files covering the full Storm Events Database (January 1950 to present, subject to the reporting lag noted above).
  3. Import the CSVs into your analysis tool and filter to relevant event types (e.g., Hail, Thunderstorm Wind, Tornado, Flood) and states for your service area.
  4. Use the Database Details and Version History pages to understand which fields and event-type definitions changed over the period you're analyzing, since data collection procedures have changed over time.
