Documented steps
Navigate to the regional energy portal homepage and locate the 'Public Records' section in the main navigation menu
Click 'Grant Programs' then select 'Renewable Energy' from the dropdown filter options
Use the date range picker to set 'Application Period' from 2023-01-01 to present (do not use exact dates that might reveal specific applicant timelines)
In the 'Status' filter, select 'Awarded' and 'Under Review' but exclude 'Denied' to focus on active opportunities
Click 'Advanced Search' and enter generic keywords like 'solar', 'wind', or 'biomass' — avoid project-specific terms or organization names
Set results per page to 50 and note that pagination requires manual navigation through 3-5 pages for complete coverage
For each result, click the record ID link to view details, then use the 'Download Summary' button to export a sanitized PDF (never the full application packet)
Cross-reference award amounts against the 'Funding Thresholds' table on the portal's FAQ page to identify grants above $50,000
Record only the grant ID, program name, award amount, and applicant type (e.g., 'rural cooperative', 'municipal utility') — omit applicant names, addresses, or contact information
After reviewing all relevant records, use the portal's 'Print View' option to generate a clean summary without session tokens or internal metadata
Known gotchas
The portal times out after 15 minutes of inactivity; session tokens in URLs must never be shared or logged
Some grant records have 'restricted' tags that prevent PDF download — these require a separate FOIA request process not covered here
The date picker defaults to the current fiscal year; users must manually adjust to see historical data
Rate limiting kicks in after 20 sequential searches; wait 5 minutes between batches to avoid IP blocks
The 'Advanced Search' form resets if you navigate away; bookmark the search URL only after removing any personal session parameters
Award amounts may appear as ranges (e.g., '$25K-$75K'); record as written without inferring exact values
