Steps
Identify the two DPP roles: the Configurator (issues credentials) and the Enrollee (the device being onboarded)
Bootstrap the Enrollee's public key to the Configurator via a QR code, NFC tag, cloud-relay, or PKEX passphrase method
Enrollee broadcasts/chirps its presence so the Configurator can locate it
Configurator and Enrollee perform DPP authentication using the bootstrapped public key
Configurator sends network configuration, including a WPA3 Connector credential where applicable, to the Enrollee
Enrollee uses the received credentials to join the Wi-Fi network without a password ever being typed on it
Known gotchas
The full DPP technical specification is largely members-only on wi-fi.org - only overview-level detail is public, so verify exact protocol parameters against your chipset vendor's SDK
The bootstrapping method (QR/NFC/PKEX) must be supported by both the Configurator app and the device
