Verify a contractor's flagger certification is genuine using ATSSA's public Flagger Verification Search before assigning them to a job, since cards issued since January 1, 2022 must carry an 11-character serial number to be valid.

Steps

  1. Go to the ATSSA Flagger Verification Search tool (atssa.com/resources-tools/flagger-verification-search, also mirrored at flagger.com)
  2. Enter the flagger's card serial number (format: 1 letter followed by 10 numbers, 11 characters total)
  3. Confirm the search returns a matching, non-expired certification record
  4. If no record is found, check the card issue date — cards without a serial number (pre-2022 policy) are not accepted and won't be findable this way
  5. If a recent graduate isn't showing up, contact the training instructor to confirm they submitted the class roster to ATSSA, which can take up to two weeks
