open the SPARQL query interface at vocab.getty.edu/sparql (or POST directly) — no API key is required
pick the relevant graph: vocab.getty.edu/aat (Art & Architecture Thesaurus), vocab.getty.edu/tgn (Thesaurus of Geographic Names), or vocab.getty.edu/ulan (Union List of Artist Names)
start from one of the 90+ sample queries linked from the Getty Vocabularies site for term lookup, hierarchy traversal, or label search
submit a SPARQL query (matching skos:prefLabel or similar predicates) with an Accept header for the desired format (JSON, RDF/XML, Turtle, N-Triples)

Known gotchas
AAT, TGN, and ULAN are separate graphs with different property structures (e.g. TGN adds place-hierarchy predicates) — queries are not directly portable between them
